Harvest Festival hailed a success in Longbridge
The rain didn’t stop visitors turning out in force for Longbridge’s Harvest Festival last month.
Customers browsed the farmers market which offered a variety of stalls from local businesses selling fresh fruit, vegetables, breads, cheeses, hot food and more.
The event, organised by community group Friends of Longbridge Open Spaces (FLOS) who are supported by St. Modwen, also hosted competitions which saw stallholders displaying their quirkiest vegetables and scarecrows.
All entries were judged by Helen Denby-Knight, organiser of FLOS, who awarded the Wonky Vegetable category went to Cofton Road Allotments whose giant courgette resembled that of a Saxophone. An enormous cabbage won the Best Vegetable category; grown by Ms Barbara Smith, and the award for Best Scarecrow went to John Fisher Craft Group who constructed a scarecrow that was busy knitting.
Visitors also enjoyed an ‘Act of Thanksgiving’ accompanied by several harvest hymns and prayers.
